IT'S EARLY SEASON IN THE TETON RANGE - JUNE 12, 2020

As valley trails in Grand Teton National Park melt out and become snow free for the summer season, be mindful of alpine conditions at higher elevations. Expect primarily snow travel above 8,500' with all major peaks and passes remaining blanketed in snow. 

Popular hiking objectives such as portions of the Teton Crest Trail and the Paintbrush-Cascade Canyon Loop require appropriate footwear and specialized equipment, meaning ice axe and the proper knowledge of its use at the very least. Climbs on the Grand, Middle, South, and other high peaks require ice axe (and often times crampons) to safely ascend and descend. Expect alpine conditions, including snow, ice, and mixed terrain.

As of Tuesday, June 16, the Jenny Lake Ranger Station is open for the season. Backcountry permits are now available for overnight camping in the park. Hours of operation are 9am to 5pm, seven days a week.
