It is not unusual in the Teton Range for the arrival of ghouls, ghosts, and goblins in the region to coincide with cooler, often snowy conditions.  Five days of stormy weather that ended last night have left their mark and "officially" plunged the high peaks of the range into winter conditions that are likely to remain.  The weather station at the Surprise Lake Meadows (9,580') is currently reading 15" of snow on the ground, and the Raymer Plot at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort recorded 20" of new snowfall from October 22-26.  Let's hope this will stick around and continue as we move in to winter!

Beginning November 1 and lasting through April, all Visitor Centers and Park Permit Offices will be closed for the winter. Backcountry permits are required year-round for any overnight travel inside Grand Teton National Park and will be available and issued by phone during this time.  Staffing is limited so please plan ahead:

WEEKENDS/HOLIDAYS:  Call Park Dispatch during business hours at 307-739-3301 and you will be forwarded to an on-duty Ranger who can issue the permit.
