Since the last update nearly two months ago, a little bit of snow came, but then the snow went! The valley floor in the southern half of the park remains, essentially, snow-free due to some unseasonably warm temperatures in November and extremely dry conditions in December. In the mountains above 9,000' snow depths range from 3-5 feet but the ground remains mostly bare below 7,000.' Temperatures are now seasonable and we are anxious to get some more snow to go with them!
As a reminder, winter wildlife closures went into effect on December 1st to protect critical winter wildlife habitat - see map.
All visitor centers and campgrounds in Grand Teton National Park are closed for the winter. Camping permits are required year-round for all overnight trips into the backcountry. Backcountry camping permits can be obtained Monday-Friday during business hours (8:30-12:00 pm & 1:00-4:30 pm) at the front desk in the Park Headquarters Building.
