BAXTER'S PINNACLE OPEN FOR SEASON - June 26, 2015

Effective immediately, the closure on Baxter's Pinnacle has been lifted.  This year's peregrine nest was, apparently, unsuccessful and the adults have left the area.

The avalanche activity in the high country has settled down and conditions are becoming more seasonal.  Climbers and hikers should still be careful on steep snow slopes especially in the afternoon hours on warm sunny days.

Due to the late spring storms there is still a significant amount of snow and ice on the Owen-Spalding Route of the Grand Teton.  An ice axe and crampons are needed for the descent of the Grand.

The Jenny Lake Ranger Station is now open daily for the summer season from 8-5pm.  Stop in and see us to get the latest conditions information before your trip.

AVALANCHE CONDITIONS STILL EXIST ABOVE 11,500 - June 16, 2015

Due to the late season precipitation, the high elevation snowpack has not fully transitioned to supportable summer snow. We have been getting reports of loose snow avalanches and sloppy post-hole conditions on snow slopes above 11, 500ft. Use caution and assess slopes carefully.

Wet loose avalanches triggered small slabs in the S Fork of Garnet

More point releases around the Middle Teton and Lower Saddle

 In addition to the above photos 1-2 ft (.5 meter) crowns of recent slab avalanches were observed on several aspects of the higher elevations including the south snowfields of Mt. Owen and the East Face of the Grand Teton.
