The closure area at Hidden Falls has been modified to allow access into the East side of the Hidden Falls viewing area. This will also open the trail to Lower Inspiration Point. As of August 4th the Teton Crest Trail is primarily snow free. Paintbrush Divide is primarily melted out leaving one small section of wet, loose rock that must be navigated below the lingering snow patch on the eastern side of the divide. An ice axe and crampons are not needed to complete this short, exposed traverse, nor are they needed anywhere else along the Crest Trail.

Portions of the Teton Crest Trail, as well as popular loop hikes like Paintbrush Canyon to Cascade Canyon require an ice axe and possibly crampons for safe travel. In the North Fork of Garnet Canyon, climbers are using the summer route and fixed line to avoid the majority of remaining snow. On the Grand Teton, climbs like Upper Exum are primarily dry, and the Owen-Spalding is melting out rapidly, containing wet rock. An ice axe may still be warranted to traverse small patches of exposed snow on the approach or descent from the summit.
