WINTER RETURNS WITH POWDER AND A WARM FOG - MARCH 27, 2013

A few days after a spring snowstorm brought new snow to the range, the skies cleared and skiers hit the high peaks.   This week a ski descent of the Grand Teton (Otterbody) was filmed from the air.  Others enjoyed descents of Mt. Buck, the South and Middle Teton, Dissapointment Peak and many other powder slopes in between.  That clear and cold day was soon replaced by rising temperatures, warm fog and crust!  What will April bring?  

SPRING CONDITIONS ON DAYLIGHT SAVINGS DAY - MARCH 10, 2013

It was a great day to get up high and look around Garnet Canyon!  Those that did could be seen kicking up the Hourglass Couloir, skinning to the Black Dike and descending from Cloudveil, the South Teton, Middle Teton and the Grand.

NPS BROTHER LOST, BUT NOT FORGOTTEN - FEBRUARY 2, 2013

The Jenny Lake Rangers and all of Grand Teton National Park extend their deepest sympathy and condolences to the family, friends, and co-workers of Nick Gillespie.  Nick passed away on January 27, 2013 after being caught in an avalanche while skiing on Survey Peak in the northern part of Grand Teton National Park.  The loss of one of our own NPS brethren is heartbreaking, and Nick will be missed dearly by all those who had the pleasure of knowing, living, and/or working with him.

If you would like to honor Nick in some tangible way, his mother and father request that you donate to either the Jenny Lake Rangers Fund or Teton County Search and Rescue.  

THE MORNING AFTER - FEBRUARY 2, 2013

A large slab avalanche on the SE shoulder of Teewinot - 2/2/2013

After a week of unsettled weather dumped approximately 2-3 feet of new snow in the mountains, today dawned clear, revealing a snow-plastered Teton Range.  Elevated avalanche danger exists throughout the range on all aspects and elevations.  For detailed information on the snowpack and avalanche danger in the Teton Range please visit the Bridger-Teton Avalanche Center website.
