HAPPY NEW YEAR - JAN 2, 2018

Happy New Year's from Grand Teton! Snow conditions continue to be challenging since our last significant snowfall, with a number of small to moderate avalanches reported within the park, so please check the local avalanche forecast if you're venturing into the backcountry. Bridger Teton Avalanche Forecast
See the video below of our rangers conducting a stability test in popular backcountry skiing terrain:
This test was conducted on Dec 27, on the North Ridge of 25 Short, above Pesticide Gulch. Though nearly a week ago, the active weak layer seen here continues to be a major concern to backcountry travelers. Please keep this in mind and make appropriate terrain and travel choices.

If you're looking for an alternative to the backcountry, the Teton Park Road from Taggart Lake to Signal Mountain is groomed and open for Nordic skiing.

All visitor centers and campgrounds in Grand Teton National Park are closed for the winter.  Camping permits are required year-round for all overnight trips into the backcountry.  Backcountry camping permits can be obtained Monday-Friday during business hours (8:30-12:00 pm & 1:00-4:30 pm) at the front desk in the Park Headquarters Building.  To obtain a permit on weekends please contact Park Dispatch at (307) 739-3301.
