ROCKFALL IN GARNET CANYON!! - AUGUST 27, 2013

Early on August 27th a large rockfall event occurred on the north aspect of Nez Perce Peak. Several very large rocks fell from a high cliff face that sent many large rocks rolling out from a chute above the South Fork.  Some of these large rocks came to rest near the South Fork climbers trail.  This area remains active and is a clear reminder to us all that the  mountains hold this potential.

Care should be taken when passing beneath this area to access the South Fork of Garnet Canyon.

Overnight moisture and cold temperatures brought a wintry mix to parts of the Tetons.  At the Lower Saddle the 6:00 am. temperature was 36 degrees and reports of snow and ice on the OS and Upper Exum are coming in from the mountain.

For more updates check with the Jenny Lake Ranger Station or check the condition links on the right for more detailed information as it comes in.
